Killing: Police Invite Modakeke Youth Leader To Prevent Reprisal Attack On Ife

The Osun State Police Command has invited the youth leader in Modakeke to a meeting to prevent the people of the town from embarking on a reprisal.

A woman and her grown up son were on Tuesday killed on their farmland at the Alapata area which is populated by Modakeke people.

The deceased’s kinsmen suspected that the mother and her son were killed by people from Ile Ife and this has been generating tension in the two communities since the incident happened.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Yemisi Opalola, told journalists on Wednesday that the people had been working to ensure that the tension did not degenerate into breakdown of law and order.

The PPRO said, “The corpses have been taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Morgue.

“Modekeke youths were trying to gather themselves but our men have Invited the Modakeke Youth Leader into a meeting to douse the tension.”

She said the police had begun investigation into the incident and said they would bring whoever committed the crime to justice.

Meanwhile, Modakeke community has asked the police to carryout a thorough probe into the killings to unravel those behind it and ensure that justice is served in the matter.

The Public Relations Officer of the Modakeke Progressive Union, Ven. Debo Babalola, on Wednesday called on the police to make sure that those behind the killing were made to pay for their crime.

Babalola revealed the identities of the mother and son.

He gave the name of the woman as Mrs Titilayo Gbadegesin and her son as Reuben Gbadegesin.

He said, “Titilayo was a farmer and was also into buying of farm produce while Reuben was her first child.

“Reuben was planning to travel out of the country when he was killed alongside his mother.

“We are demanding an investigation into the gruesome killing of the mother and her son.

“We are still in the dark as to how it happened. Other farmers may know how it happened and who did it but we want the police to prove into it.

” Alapata village is the in Ife-North Local Government populated by Modakeke farmers, while Isoya village around it is an Ife settlement.There must be justice for them.”
