Sallah Tragedy: Gas Explosion Kills Six In Abeokuta

Six persons were reportedly killed in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Wednesday as a refrigerator gas cylinder caught fire and exploded.

The explosion was said to have occurred around 2pm at the Oke-Egunya area of Abeokuta.

It was gathered that the technician was refilling the refrigerator gas cylinder when the gas attracted naked fire from a woman frying fish at a nearby shop.

The fire was reported to have caused the cylinder to explode.

Three persons were said to have died on the spot as a result of the blast. Three other victims who sustained injuries were also said to have died on the way to hospital.

The Director of Fire Service in Ogun State, Mr Fatai Adefala, when contacted confirmed the incident.

He, however, said three persons died from the explosion.

He said his men received a distress call and rushed to the scene. He said they saw three persons dead.

But residents later told journalists that apart from the three victims who died on the spot, three injured victims also died before they were rushed to hospital for treatment.
