The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kogi West senatorial district supplementary election, Dino Melaye has given condition under which he would accept the outcome of the poll.

Melaye spoke after casting his vote in PU 004, Ayetoro ward 1 in Ijumu LGA, on Saturday.

“What we have as result is fraud… a major fraud,” Melaye said, adding that he would challenge the result in court if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should refuse to review the initial poll.

The rerun had first taken place on November 16 but was declared inconclusive by INEC due violence and snatching of ballot boxes.

INEC’s returning officer for the election, Olayinde Lawal, had said the total margin between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Smart Adeyemi and Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was lower than the number of cancelled votes in 53 polling units.

The electoral umpire had declared that Adeyemi polled 80,118 votes while Melaye of the PDP got 59,548, whereas the cancelled polling units have a total of 46,127 registered voters.
