Lagos: Appeal Court Issues Guidelines For Court Proceedings, Discourages Visits To Court

The Appeal Court in Lagos has issued new guidelines for the conduct of court businesses in the state, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Court’s Deputy Registrar, dated 22nd May.

“The court shall be open for court sessions and conduct of business from the hours of 8am to 2pm Mondays to Fridays, except on public holiday.

The court also stated that wearing of facemasks was now mandatory for everyone including Justices, adding that “court shall hear appeals and conduct proceedings from 9.00 in the forenoon.”

The court added that court halls and premises (Fridays) must be disinfected daily.

Furthermore, the court also stated that counsels, litigants and others should no longer come to the court physically to verify matters, but should send inquiries to ‘[email protected]’ or call or text its official numbers.

Meanwhile, it added that public health advisory on covid-19 must be complied with, while cases to be attended to daily should not be more than 10.

It also stated that the number of workers per day should not be much.

“The Deputy Chief Registrar should provide the necessary protective accessories (hand gloves, etc) for Bailiffs, in order to facilitate the safe conduct of their duties of service of process,” the statement read in part.
