Lagos Explosion: Kyari Says Residual Fire Reignited Pipeline Inferno 

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Group Managing Director (GMD), Mele Kyari has said that Monday morning’s fire re-ignition at the site of the gas explosion was caused by the residual fires in the neighbourhood.

THE WHISTLER had on Sunday reported a pipeline gas explosion at Abule- Aba area of Lagos state that killed 17 people and left scores wounded, while over 50 buildings were razed.

The fire was reported to have continued in the early hours of Monday around 5 a.m, but Kyari said a combined team of the NNPC and Lagos state government had effectively controlled the fire and taken measures to stop further re-ignition.

According to Kyari in a tweet posted on his verified twitter handle- @ MKKyari that the, “NNPC pipeline fire reignited at 5.10 a.m. by residual fires in the neighborhood. Combined team of NNPC, NN, LASG and FFS have effectively controlled the fire and steps taken to forestall any reignition. MD NPSC onsite with Gov of Lagos for reassessment.”
