The ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles in some LGAs in the state by the Sanwo-olu led administration took effect from February 2020, but was met with a series of protest and clashes with police officials.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, however, noted that the welfare of the residents  matters, but acknowledged that the prosperity of the land and its people was also vital.

“One life is more important to us than millions that can happen, but we understand too that investments can be critical.

“Tough decisions we have made regarding the restriction of the means of transportation in Lagos state, but I want to say some facts, and people can go and debate it.

“The restriction that we have done and I will continue to emphasize, is primarily based on security of lives; it is based on safety of lives.

“It’s based on the level of danger that we’ve seen that has happened to our people and as responsible government, we will not fold our arms,” he said.

The Lagos government also uploaded videos  on its twitter account, alleging that the activities of “Okada” motorcycles had been a menace.
