LAUTECH Warns Staff On Travel Plans After Workers Escaped Kidnap On Akure-Ilesa Highway

The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State has cautioned staff against unnecessary travel after some workers at the weekend escaped abduction by some armed men suspected to be of Fulani extraction.

The workers, it was gathered, had traveled to the Akoko area of Ondo State for a social function last Saturday.

They were returning to Ogbomoso when the armed hoodlums waylaid them and swooped on their vehicles and that of other motorists trapped by the hoodlums on the road.

Some of the motorists and travellers were said to have fled into the bush to escape from the kidnappers.

The quick intervention of the police and some hunters reportedly foiled the planned abduction. The kidnappers were reportedly forced to ababdon their targets and also fled the scene.

The incident forced some to abandoned their vehicles on the road and it took quite some time before the passengers who had ran into different directions in the bush resurfaced.

Some of them were injured as they reportedly fell down many times while running from the gunmen.

The Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Lekan Fadeyi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the management of the varsity was grateful to God that none of the workers was abducted.

He said, “The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mojeed Liasu, is grateful and has expressed his sincere thanks to the almighty God over the miraculous manner through which some workers of the Institution were saved from ravaging bandits.

“They were waylaid on the road between Ondo and Osun states at the weekend but God made them to escape.

“He urged the staff of the university to be prayerful and be more careful and advised them to embark only on important journeys.”
