Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, arrived Mali to continue mediation efforts towards resolving the country’s socio-political crisis.

Jonathan disclosed this in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that the Malian Prime Minister, Boubou Cisse, and the President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, were removed and detained in August by mutineering soldiers.

This was frowned on by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other international bodies leading to the eventual release of Keita.

ECOWAS Heads of State also called for a restoration to constitutional order in the country within 12 months.

In what looks like compliance with the ECOWAS directive, the nation’s military junta, on Monday, named the country’s former Defence Minister, Ba N’Daou, as the President of a Transition Government.

On his part, Jonathan, who is leading ECOWAS Commission’s efforts in the country, stressed that he was hopeful of a positive outcome in the mediation.

“We returned to Bamako this afternoon to continue consultations with key stakeholders as Malian authorities begin the implementation of their plans for the restoration of a civilian administration.

” The Ecowas Cedeao mediation team
expects to have fruitful engagements that would bring clarity on the mechanisms for a transition government that is about to be inaugurated,” he said.
