The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old hunter, Waheed Rasaki, for allegedly shooting his co-hunter, Femi Oyedepo, to death during a hunting expedition in Ibadan, the state capital.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 7, 2026, at Oretan Ijaiye Area of Moniya, in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
According to the statement, Rasaki reported at the Moniya Police Division that he had mistakenly shot Oyedepo at about 2:00 p.m. while hunting in the Oretan Ijaiye Forest.
The victim reportedly slumped and died instantly from the gunshot injury.
Ayanlade said the police immediately commenced investigations into the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
In a related development, the police also confirmed another fatal shooting involving students of Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic, Saki.

The PPRO stated that the command responded to a distress call on January 7, at about 2:30 p.m., over a fight among students at Challenge 1 Area, behind the institution.
“During the altercation, one student sustained a gunshot wound to the back and was rushed to Tunmise Private Hospital, Saki, where the victim later succumbed to the injury,” the statement read.
An expended cartridge was recovered at the scene, while one suspect, identified as Olatunji Segun, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police said further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances and motive behind the crime.
Commending officers involved in the operations, the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, praised their professionalism, courage and swift response, which led to the arrest of suspects and the containment of threats to public safety.

The police command assured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order and bringing offenders to justice, while urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
