A statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said “The federal government is firmly and resolutely committed to taking all necessary measures to safeguard the nation’s security.

“This administration is determined to end the menace of terrorism.”

Shehu said major exercise has begun to hunt down the perpetrators of the attack with air patrols by the nation’s Air Force and ground operations by the army.

Similarly, Senator Shehu Sani described the attack as tragic and condemnable.

Sani on his official Twitter handle on Monday wrote: “The reported massacre of 65 mourners in Borno is tragic and condemnable.

“Every day, our conscience and wisdom as a nation is challenged, to bring an end to this despicable & dastardly horror.”

On his own part, a former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, expressed sadness over the level of insecurity in the country.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “Boko Haram kill 65 mourners at a funeral in Borno! Is this “technically defeated” Boko Haram?
