MASSOB Calls On Southeast To Engage In ‘Sober Reflection’ As Group Marks 21’s Anniversary

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Thursday, called for a sober reflection on the situation of the people of the Southeast in the Nigerian polity as the movement marks its 21 years’ anniversary.

The leader of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, in a statement made available to THE WHISTLER in Umuahia, claimed the people of the Southeast had paid sacrifices for the actualization of the Biafran sovereignty since the inception of the movement on September 13, 1999.

Madu stated that, “Though MASSOB, as a non-violence organization, has achieved a lot for the Biafran emancipation, we shall never relent or derail. We have been persecuted, arrested, killed, mesmerized, imprisoned and traumatized by aggressive agents of the federal government of Nigeria. We shall never retreat nor surrender. MASSOB will continue to remember and honour our fallen heroes who willingly laid down their precious lives for the love of Biafra.”

Madu in the statement regretted that many members of the organization were languishing in the custodies of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Awka and Onitsha, with some in the mortuary in Onitsha.

According to him, “Our lives are dedicated to the cause of the Biafran actualization. We have no future in Nigeria because this geographical expression called Nigeria was designed by the Christian British colonial masters to enslave the people of Christian Biafra forever and favour the Muslim Arewa people.”
