Minors Trafficked From Akwa Ibom To Osun For Farm Labour Rescued By Amotekun

Operatives of Osun Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, have arrested a 23-year-old man, named Isaac Okonu, for allegedly trafficking one adult and four minors to the state.

Okonu was arrested around 6:45 PM on Thursday while transporting the minors.

“The suspect was arrested by men of Amotekun in Ifetedo after the driver of the vehicle that transported them from Akwa Ibom to Osun State noticed something suspicious in the vehicle. The driver immediately complained to Amotekun’s Ifetedo Command in Ife South Local Government and the Area Commander was informed about the incident. The operatives swung into action immediately and arrested the culprit,” the Corps’ Commander, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, said in a statement on Saturday.

The trafficked victims were identified as David Dominic Udoh, 23 years old, from Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom; Moses Ibom Sunday, 10 years old, from Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State; David Sunday Okafor, 11 years old, from Arujukwu Village in Akwa Ibom State; Wisdom Ukpong Bassey, 15 years from Akwa Ibom State; and Hope Nwem Eto, 14 years old from Akwa Ibom State.

Adewinmbi further explained that Okonu met the five victims at a motor park in Akwa Ibom State begging for money.

Okonu allegedly told them he could provide them with jobs in Lagos State and took them inside the transport vehicle without the consent of their parents or relatives.

He moved them down to Osun State, heading to Ajebandele where he planned to use them on his farm before luck ran out on him in Ifetedo, Ife South Local Government of Osun State.

Adewinmbi said the suspect and the victims have been transferred to the Osun headquarters of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Osogbo, for further interrogation and prosecution.
