Mob Sets Ablaze Two Suspected Armed Robbers In Calabar

Two suspected armed robbers have met their waterloo in Calabar, Cross River State Capital after they were set ablaze by an angry mob.

The incident, which happened at Akai Effa by Jehovah’s Witness Junction, where the mob was said to have forced the victims to call their family members on telephone and tell them that they were about to be burnt to death for attempted armed robbery before they were eventually lynched.

The lynching of the two suspects by the mob came as a result of the bold manner in which robbers were said to be operating in the area in recent times.

According to reports, a suspected robber was mobbed to death on Christmas day after he had also raped his victim at Okoro Agbor area of Calabar Municipality.

The police had tried to rescue the victim who was beaten to a pulp but he died before they got him to the hospital.

Similarly, the two robbery suspects were burnt to death before the police arrived the scene of Monday’s mob action.

The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident but refused to speak further: “it is true. It happened.”
