Museveni Re-elected Through Widespread Voter Fraud – UN Watch

A United Nations (UN) accredited NGO has accused Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni of rigging his way to power, for a sixth term.

The UN Watch, in a tweet on Tuesday, said it was impossible for Museveni to have won if he hadn’t shut down internet and deliberately intimidated the opposition.

“Congratulations to Uganda President Yoweri Museveni on winning re-election after murdering, imprisoning and silencing opponents, shutting down the internet, and committing widespread voter fraud,” it stated.

The Electoral Commission had announced Museveni as winner of the country’s presidential poll on Thursday but his main political rival, Bobi Wine had called him out, saying he forcefully (unlawfully) held on to power.

That claim had been strongly denied by the incumbent president who, through one of his aides, had said that those with facts of rigging should provide it.

But doubts about the country’s election had been heightened when the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said that the political climate was not good for a transparent election.

He specifically said that he was “concerned about reports of violence and tensions in parts of Uganda ahead of these polls and calls on all political actors and their supporters to refrain from the use of hate speech, intimidation and violence.”

That concern seemed to have played out at the country’s election as even the United Kingdom and the United States have all pointed that out.

However, the UN advocates that aggrieved persons should only explore the option of taking the matter to court.
