Musikilu Mojeed’s Emergence As IPI President Excites Adeleke, Oluwo Of Iwo

Senator Ademola Adeleke and the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, have expressed excitement over the recent emergence of Musikilu Mojeed as president of the Nigeria chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI).

The IPI is a global network that defends media freedom and improves journalism practices.

Mojeed, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times, ran unopposed for the position at the institute’s last general assembly which held on December 16 in Abuja.

Adeleke congratulated Mojeed for his election and described him as “a thoroughbred professional who has distinguished himself in the field of journalism, both locally and Internationally.”

The Osun governorship aspirant described Mojeed’s election as “well-deserved,” noting his “tested exploits in investigative journalism alongside a very high sense of integrity and uprightness.”

He promised that “…if elected candidate of PDP and Governor of Osun State, our administration will ensure media friendly policies and programmes. We will create enabling environment for free press to thrive.

“Specifically, our government will domesticate the Freedom of Information Act in Osun state. We will sponsor an Open Government law as well as launch an Insurance coverage scheme for journalists operating in the state. These cardinal programmes will be the rules of our management with the media.”

In his congratulatory message, the Oluwo of Iwoland said Mojeed ais an ‘illustrious son” of Iwo who like many other natives of the town have continued to make him and the people proud.

“I congratulate Mr. Musikilu Mojeed on his emergence as the President of International Press Institute (IPI). I have no doubt in his ability to effectively administer the union and further strengthen objective journalism not only in Nigeria but the world at large.

“He is a symbol of the parrots, upright and truthful. No one could have better be placed in such a position than a man of integrity. Once again, I congratulate you and seek for a wisdom greater than that of Solomon to constructively administer the institute.

“Iwo sons and daughters shall continue to prosper, promoted and elevated at every advantage. My best wishes to my illustrious son, Musikilu Mojeed,” Oba Akanbi was quoted to have said by his media aide, Alli Ibrahim.
