President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has accused bitter rival, Chris Giwa of trying to destroy the country’s football.

The NFF boss also said the Chris Giwa-led faction, is trying to frustrate Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.

Over the past two-years, the duo have been in a tug of war over the leadership of the NFF, and in the last two months, Giwa has made several attempts to force his way into the NFF secretariat.

Speaking during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Pinnick said: “Giwa is a major distraction and their main aim, from A to Z, is to ensure Nigeria do not qualify for the next World Cup after we promised Nigerians we will,” Pinnick said at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.

“It’s a shame,” he added.

The NFF boss further assured soccer loving Nigerians that the football body will do all in its power to ensure qualification to the 2018 World Cup.

The Super Eagles would be seeking a sixth appearance at the world football tournament after missing out on the last two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

“We cannot afford any distractions, not from anywhere,” Pinnick said.

“We have an objective of qualifying for Russia 2018 and that is not what we can negotiate. That is one of the reasons I am in the office today.

“The Board has to look at various areas of the preparation as we countenance the draw for the group phase of the series that is coming up on 24th June.”

The Russia 2018 World Cup draws for Africa will be held on June 24 in Cairo, Egypt.

Nigeria is most likely to face a tough qualifying group as they were zoned in Pot 3. Qualifying games are expected to commence in October and will run till November next year.
