Nigerians Laud CNN’s Becky Anderson For ‘Drilling’ Gov Sanwo-Olu Over Lekki Shooting

Some Nigerian social media users have commended the anchor of CNN’s current affairs news programme, ‘Connect the World’, Rebecca Anderson, after she interviewed Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on the alleged shooting of unarmed #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate by Nigerian soldiers on October 20.

THE WHISTLER reports that Anderson had put Governor Sanwo-Olu on the spot by pressing him to reveal those behind the shooting incident at the Lekki toll gate.

The Lagos State Governor had stuttered while attempting to answer Anderson’s question on if the shooting was carried out by Nigerian soldiers and who ordered their deployment to the protest ground.

Sanwo-Olu had said, “From the footage that we could see, it seems to be…there would be men in military uniform, who should be Nigerian Army or something.” But when pressed further, the governor said, “Yes, they were there. That’s what the footage shows.”

Sanwo-Olu revealed during the interview that the state government had obtained footage from the CCTV cameras installed at the Lekki toll gate and promised to make it available to the state’s judicial panel of enquiry investigating the matter.

“Becky Anderson” trended at number two position on Nigeria Twitter trends after clips from the interview went viral on the micro-blogging platform.

The Twitter users commended the news anchor for “drilling” the governor and forcing him to admit on air that soldiers were behind the shooting, against the Nigerian Army’s claim that there was no presence of soldiers at the scene. Below are some of the reactions:
