NPFL: Rangers Reclaim Top Spot As Rivers Utd Lose In Bauchi

Enugu Rangers overthrew Rivers United at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), on Sunday after thumping Sunshine Stars 2-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Bobby Clement netted a goal in each half as the Flying Antelopes took a huge step in ending their 32-year wait for silverware in the Nigerian top flight football.

Clement netted the opener with nine minutes left in the first half, the big man who was voted man-of-the-match completed his brace in the 49th – minute as Rangers secured top spot.

Rivers United who were occupying the top spot before Sunday’s games lost 1-0 to fellow title chasers Wikki Tourists of Bauchi after an 80th- minute Christopher Waziri striker dropped the Stanley Eguma’s side to second place.

Coach Imama Amakapabor’s men now have 57 points, one more than second-placed Rivers United, while Wikki Tourists moved into third place with 54 points.

Plateau United managed a slim 1-0 victory over Ikorodu United to relegate the Lagos based side to the second tier division at the Rwang Pam Stadium, while Shooting Stars are still in a relegation battle, after they lost 1-0 to Warri Wolves at the Warri City Stadium.

Lobi Stars claimed a 2-1 win over IfeanyiUbah FC, champions Enyimba were held to a 0-0 draw by MFM FC and Abia Warriors posted a 2-1 win over Nasarawa United to end their six-game losing streak as Abdullahi Biffo celebrated his first victory in charge of the Ocendo Babes
