Official: Shekarau Joins APC

A former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mr Shekarau announced the decision after a closed-door meeting with APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and other top officials of the ruling party.

He said his decision to pitch tent with the APC is based on current political situation in the country.

Days back, Sule Ya’u Sule, Media Aide to the former governor, told Daily Trust that his principal met with Kano State governor, Umar Ganduje, in Abuja, on Monday, to conclude plans on his return to the APC.

Sule further explained that a heated debate between his principal and his supporters, was the last straw in a series of unpleasant events that propelled Shakarau’s decision to dump the PDP.

According to him, it was not possible for Shekarau to remain in the PDP as it dances to the tune of Rabi’u Kwankwaso, a former governor of the state.

“I want confirm to you that Shekarau has decided to defect from PDP to APC due to the injustice meted on him and his supporters by the PDP leadership,” Sule was quoted as saying by Daily Trust.

“My boss has met with Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Abuja yesterday and concluded plans for our return to APC. He will meet with all the stakeholders concern in Kano and than made his decamping public.”

National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, had intervened in the situation and appeared to have reconciled Shekarau and Kwankwaso.

But today’s event indicates that efforts by the opposition party to stop the former minister’s defection yielded no fruit.
