Ohanaeze Asks Igbo Elders To Withdraw ‘Nepotism’ Suit Against Buhari After Enugu Airport’s Reopening

The reopening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, after one year of closure is an ‘affirmative action that President Muhammadu Buhari’s love for Igbos is unparalleled’, according to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide.

The youth arm of the pan-Igbo organization stated this in a statement it sent to THE WHISTLER on Sunday in Enugu. The statement was signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group’s president general, as well as Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, its secretary-general. OYC, in the statement, also called on some Igbo elders who took President Buhari to court over allegations of ‘nepotism, religious bigotry’ among other constitutional violations, to withdraw their suit.

The statement reads in part: “OYC wishes to categorically state that we have the mandate of Igbo elders to persuade those who unjustly used Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s name as signatories to the ongoing suit against President Muhammadu Buhari without proper consultative approval from the various stakeholders to withdraw.

“Igbo youths salute the Southeast Governors’ Forum for the harmonious relationship between them and President Muhammadu Buhari irrespective of the rogue operations of few Igbo groups to label them saboteurs. OYC is full of hope that international flights will resume operations at the Enugu International Airport at the resumption of international flights on September 5th 2020.”

Our correspondent reports that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, was a beehive of activities today after resumption of flights in the airport following about one year closure of the place to enable repairs of its facilities.
