Okada Ban: Police, Motorcycle, Tricycle Riders Clash In Lagos

Operators of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as “Okada” created a scene in Ijora, Lagos on Monday, as they reportedly attacked vehicles and smashed windscreens around the area, thereby clashing with the police.

The protest may not be unconnected with the ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles in some LGAs in the state by the Sanwo-olu led administration; which took effect from February.

Ijora, in Apapa Local Government, is one of the LGAs affected by the ban.

Punch reports that the clash occurred when the police officers attempted to stop the protest embarked upon by the riders.

According to a tweet by  Bhadoosky, buses were also allegedly stoned by those who are aggrieved by the ban.

“#OkadaBan protesters at Ijora stoning people inside Molue. E don dey happen. Please be safe out there,” he tweeted.

Despite the protests, the government has insisted that it has plans to ensure that those operators affected by the ban are not jobless.
