‘Okada’ Riders Charge N1,000 To Cross Traffic As Army Checkpoint Causes Gridlock On Abuja-Keffi Road

Commercial motorcycle operators popularly known as ‘Okada’ on Wednesday raised their fare from about N200 to N1,000 following the gridlock that occured at the Abuja-Keffi expressway.

The gridlock was caused by a return of the military checkpoint located at the Kugbo end of the road.

The checkpoint led to the blockage of a section of the road.

The situation left many civil servants and travelers who had left their houses in the early hours of Wednesday stranded.

It was gathered that the chaotic situation which toured to Masaka has forced several people to abandon their vehicles to walk several kilometers in order to meet up with appointments.

Report had it that the situation also made workers who left their homes as early as 5am for their respective working places trapped inside their vehicles as at 10:20am.

As at the time of press, no reason has yet been offered for the return of road block that was suspended for more than two years now.

Most of the commercial drivers lamented the sudden return of the military on the road and pleaded with government authorities to look into their plights.
