Oluwo Reveals Rank Of Ooni, Others In Hierarchy Of Yoruba Monarchs

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, has revealed the rank of some monarchs in the hierarchy of traditional rulers in Yorubaland.

Oba Akanbi appeared as a guest during a live interview hosted by Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation Magazine, on Instagram.

Momodu had asked the Oluwo to give a breakdown of the hierarchy of the Yoruba kings amongst the children of Oduduwa.

The monarch said, “In Osun State, the Oluwo is number 4, the Ooni of Ife is number 1, the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland is number 2, while the Orangun of Ila is number 3.”

Iwo, where Oba Akanbi traditionally superintends, has over 30 powerful Kings who are all answerable to the Oluwo.

But the Ooni of Ife is believed to be the highest ranked monarch in Yorubaland and the accepted chairman of the council of Yoruba traditional rulers.
