Oshiomhole In More Trouble, To Face Further DSS Grilling

The Department of State Services (DSS) is set to further interrogate embattled National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The ex-governor of Edo State who had emerged the National Chairman of the ruling party less than five months ago, has been having a running battle with some governors over the conduct of its primaries.

Oshiomhole had been reported to have left the country on Wednesday amid controversies surrounding his interrogation by the DSS on Sunday and Monday.

The interrogation was prompted by numerous petitions sent to DSS, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Presidency arising from allegations of bribery and manipulation in the conduct of the party primaries ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Most of the petitions were said to have from Imo, Ogun, Niger, Zamfara, Kaduna, Bauchi, Adamawa, Delta and Cross River states.

“The comrade (Oshiomhole) is expected to return for further interrogation when he returns to the country. That’s why we released him on administrative bail,” Security sources told PUNCH correspondent.

“We are still looking at his statements and also carrying out further investigations. This type of operation is not meant for the members of the public.

“Rather, we will brief the President when the report is ready. Oshiomhole is the national chairman of the President’s political party. He deserves to know our report first.”

Meanwhile, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, had on Thursday distanced himself from the travail of Oshiomhole with the DSS.

“I think you are probably giving me an oversight role and I am not a security person, so clearly I think that question will not be for me.

“I don’t have to hide under a finger to fight. If there is a need for me to put my views across, you know me by now that I will do it,” Amosun said while reacting to media reports that he and his Imo State counterpart, Rochas Okorocha were behind Oshiomhole’s investigation.
