Otedola Bridge Explosion: NNPC Condoles With Victims, Lagos Government

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has commiserated with the Government and people of Lagos State and especially the victims of the unfortunate tanker explosion which occurred on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos, in the early hours of Saturday.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that the incident occurred when a container truck loaded with fabric experienced a brake failure and collided with a 33,000 liter fuel tanker loaded with Premium motor spirit, belonging to a downstream operator the impact of which resulted in the fire outbreak.

The two trucks were reportedly destroyed in the inferno but no life was lost in the fire which prevented vehicular movement on the busy road.

The Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, in a statement on Saturday admonished motorists and downstream operators to continue to ensure strict adherence to safety rules and regulations.

This, according to him would help avoid unfortunate incidents that always lead to loss of lives and property.

He noted that the re-occurrence of these events could have been avoided if adequate safety measures have been implemented.

The Spokesman for the Lagos State Emergency Agency, Nosa Okunbor, who confirmed the incident in a statement said no life was lost in the inferno.

He said, “No casualty was recorded. The fire has been put out by Lagos State Fire Fighters and LASEMA Response Team.”

Recall that Otedola Bridge area of the expressway had recorded many of such accidents claiming lives.and destroying properties.
