Over N100bn Illicit Drugs Seized In 8 Months-NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has announced seizure of illicit drugs worth over N100bn in 8 months.

According to the Agency’s Chairman, Buba Marwa (rtd), about two million kilogrammes of different hard drugs has been seized so far.

He said, “Poverty has remained the major cause why our youths get involved in drug peddling and trafficking, and presently, a kilo of these hard drugs worth about $400 in the street.”

Marwa, who disclosed this in a condolence visit to the family of Late Ahmed Joda, in Adamawa State capital, said that the use and sales of illicit drugs calls for concerns.

“The best way to checkmate this menace is to inculcate our family values in our children. The security challenges facing the country today is as a result of the influence of drugs on the most productive component of the society.”

He said that upholding right values in families was the best way to curb the increasing rate of violence induced by hard drugs intake.

Recall, in the past weeks, the Agency through its raid activities aimed at mopping up illicit drugs in states, had made seizures of substances including cocaine, heroin, tramadol, methamphetamine, and skunk, in Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Enugu, Bauchi, Edo, and Anambra states.

For example, a total of 6,332kilogrammes of cannabis sativa were seized in a raid carried out by operatives of the Ondo State command at Egbeta community, a border town between Ondo and Edo states.

Raids in parts of Akwa Ibom State also led to the seizure of 64,903kg illicit drugs including 1. 2031kg crack cocaine from a 26-year-old Nwoye Ogbonna Solomon.

Also, in Adamawa State, a drug dealer, Ikechukwu Onuh was arrested at Jimeta, with 14.400kg of tramadol packaged as diclofenac to evade detection.

The Agency similarly reported the seizures of 19.08kg of cocaine and skunk was recovered from three suspects in Enugu state.
