Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to disregard reports accusing him of gaming national and international financial system to hide illegally acquired properties overseas.

He reacted in a statement issued on Thursday, following a global investigative story tagged the ‘Pandora Papers’, which disclosed how about 330 politicians in 91 countries including Nigeria, in a bid to bypass tax rules, allegedly secretly acquired properties overseas.

The report was carried out by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in collaboration with 600 journalists across the world.

The investigation indicted some Nigerians including Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra, Abubakar Bagudu, Governor of Kebbi, Senator Stella Odua and Mohammed Bello Koko (Finance director of Nigerian Ports Authority) among others.

Obi was accused in the reports of not fully declaring his assets in alleged contravention of the Nigerian Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.

In his reaction, he denied violating any known law with regards to his assets.

He further accused the writers of being ignorant in financial matters.

“On the allegation that I violated the Nigerian Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, as well as sections of the 5th Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), by not declaring any alleged assets in Companies registered outside the Nigerian Federation, I think that the authors displayed ignorance on matters of Trust and International Investment Practices,” Obi said.
