Photos Of Buhari’s First Wife Surfaces On 30th Anniversary Of Marriage To Aisha

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to join President Muhammadu Buhari and First Lady Aisha in celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary on Monday, December 2, 2019.

President Buhari and Aisha had both taken to the micro-blogging platform on Monday to share photos of their family, while praying to God to grant them continued peace and blessings.

The pictures showed Buhari’s eight children and a photo of the president and the first lady in their younger days.

Nigerians shared thousands of tweets, congratulating Aisha and Buhari on the 30th anniversary of their wedding.

One Jabir Usman Ismail (@JabirUsmanIsma3) said, “Happy 30th Marriage Anniversary to our Father @MBuhari and our dear Mother @aishambuhari may Allah blessings increase upon you and may Allah bless your generations”

Gloria Adagbon (@gloria_adagbon) said, “Many congratulations Baba @MBuhari. God’s continued guidance and protection for you and our lovely First Lady, @aishambuhari, now and always. Happy 30th wedding anniversary Baba!”

But one tweet that stood out was the one shared by @akhirebhulu which showed Buhari’s picture and his late first wife, Safinatu Yusuf.

While congratulating Buhari and Aisha on their anniversary celebration, the twitter noted that “We also use this moment to celebrate the real woman, the real foundation to you military life. The woman of your youth before Aisha came along.”

Safinatu, who was born to Alhaji Yusufu Mani and Hajia Hadizatu Mani, was said to be 14 years old in 1966 when she first met President Buhari.

The president, who was a young major in the Nigerian Army at the time, was said to have first visited Safinatu’s father’s house in company of his late friend Major-General Shehu Musa Yar’adua.

Buhari was said to have eventually asked Safinatu’s hand in marriage from Mani who was working in Lagos then as the Private Secretary to Alhaji Musa Yar’adua, the then Minister of Lagos Affairs in the Federal Cabinet of the First Republic.

Safinatu bore Buhari  five children namely, Zulaihatu (now late), Magajiya-Fatima, Hadizatu-Nana, Safinatu Lami and Musa (now late).
