Police Arrest 18-Year-Old For Alleged Gang-Rape Of Underage Girl

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one Ayobami Ojetunde for his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a 15 year-old girl (name withheld)  in Ibadan. 

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu, who disclosed this in a statement said the suspect and three others raped the girl inside her father’s compound on Adesola Street, Olorunsogo in the Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state.

The victim was said to be sweeping her father’s compound  at around 6:30am when some youths invaded  her father ‘s compound and grabbed her, slammed her and pinned her to the ground while one of them defiled her. 

Each of the youths was  reported to have held her legs, and hands while the other one covered her mouth with both hands and the last one defiled her. 

The gang members were said to have fled when somebody was approaching the scene.

One of the suspects, 18 year old Ayobami Ojetunde, was later arrested and was taken to the nearby police station. 

The CP said Ojetunde was  arrested while efforts were on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang, saying all of them would be brought to justice. 

He said, ”  On August 2 at about 6:30am While the girl ( name withheld) was sweeping her father’s compound at Adesola Street Olorunsogo, Ibadan, four young men entered  into their compound , met the victims weeping. 

“They grabbed her and pushed her to the ground, while one covered her mouth with his two hands. The others  held her hands and hands while the other one thereafter had forceful canal knowledge of the victim.”

Meanwhile, the CP has explained that the death of Mary Daramola, who was raped to death at the Alabata community in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State was not connected with rituals. 

Enwonwu said this in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi.

The statement read, “The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, has been drawn to a sensational story trending on the social media and some of the respected online newspapers with the caption, ‘Another lady raped, killed in Ibadan community.’

“This is not another ritual killing in the Akinyele Local Government community as widely reported. Information received from the Divisional Police Officer, Moniya, revealed that on August 24, at about 8pm, one Toheeb Ganiyu of Alabata town in Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan was alleged to have taken one Daramola Mary, 18, his supposed girlfriend, to his house and gave her Trophy beer before having canal knowledge of her.

“Mary was later met dead with traces of semens in her private parts and blood stain in her mouth. The suspect was later arrested and preliminary investigation was carried out at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Moniya where his statement was obtained under caution before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan for investigation.”
