Police Arrest Man In Possession Of Prohibited Firearm In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command, Thursday, announced the arrest of one Chibuzor Collins, aged 23, and a native of Uzombe in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was nabbed when police operatives attached to the command’s Federal Highway Patrol, on stop-and-search operations at Oba, along Onitsha—Owerri road, intercepted a shuttle bus he was in.

According to the police PRO of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, the incident happened on 25/11/2020 at about 12:30pm. He said the suspect drew the attention of the intelligence officers when he began to behave in a suspicious manner and, upon search on him, a double barrel locally-made short gun loaded with two live cartridges was recovered in his possession’.

Haruna added that, “The suspect was promptly arrested, and is assisting the police with useful information to unravel his motive of being in possession of a firearm inside a shuttle bus after which he would be brought to justice.”

In a related development, on the 24/11/2020, at about 80:30pm, a police patrol team attached to Okpoko division, while on patrol along Owerri road by Obodoukwu junction, intercepted a middle-aged man carrying a Ghana-must-go bag containing one G3 rifle containing 17 rounds of 7.25×61mm live ammunition, one pump action gun and one magazine.

It was gathered that the bearer of the bag abandoned it and escaped in-between vehicles when the attention of the police operatives was drawn to him. The state PPRO told our correspondent that ‘effort is being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect in order to bring him to book’.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, CP John B. Abang, has appealed to members of the public to report suspicious activities or individuals to the police through the emergency number 07039194332 or to the nearest police station for prompt response
