Police Investigate Officer Using POS To Collect Money From Nigerian In Viral Video

The Nigeria Police has said it has commenced investigation into a viral video in which an officer of the force was seen, allegedly with POS machine demanding Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card from a member of the public.

A twitter user Kelechi Marshall @MarshallKacy had on January 8, 2020 shared the video on her handle, in which a young man was seen protesting the officer’s request for his ATM card.

“I will not give you my ATM card. I have not seen where a police officer would be asking someone for his/her card,” the young man protested.

The video immediately drew divergent reactions from members of the public.

According to a series of tweets on its handle @PoliceNG, the force said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) condemned all acts of corruption by public servants, particularly personnel of the force, as he was committed to bringing to book any found wanting in such regard.

“Members of the public with relevant information that could assist Police investigators are enjoined to kindly DM @policeNG or furnish same via any of our confidential channels e.g [email protected],” a part of the tweet read.
