Police Place N500,000 Bounty On Fleeing Ibadan Serial Killer

The Oyo State Police Command has placed a N500,000 bounty on Sunday Shodipe, who escaped from police custody on August 11.

The police said whoever gives them information leading to the arrest of the suspected serial ritual killer would be paid the amount.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, announced this in a statement on Thursday.

Shodipe, 19, is the prime suspect in the series of killings in the Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan. He was arrested and confessed to killing some of the victims. He was arraigned and the court asked that he should be remanded in police custody but he later escaped from custody.

The statement read, ” The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, psc wishes to state that handsome reward of Five hundred thousand naira only (#500,000) awaits whoever gives useful information for the arrest of the suspected serial killer in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, one Sunday Shodipe ‘m’ 19yrs.

” He was arrested and paraded at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters on 17th July, 2020, but later escaped from lawful custody on 11th August, 2020.

“Consequently, the general public is hereby implored to arrest and immediately hand him over to the nearest Police Station for necessary action. The Command can be contacted on GSM Numbers: 08035632410 and 07066003536.”

There have been outcries and the police have been severely criticised following the escape of the suspect.

The suspect was said to have said he wanted to take his bath and an inspector who was off duty on the fateful day opened the cell and took him out to shower. The teenager reportedly escaped in the process.
