Police, Residents Rescue Kano Traditional Ruler From Kidnappers

The Kano State Police Command has rescued the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, after suspected bandits attacked Garun Mallam Town in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.

Nadabo was reportedly abducted during the attack but was abandoned by the kidnappers after security operatives, assisted by local residents, mounted a pursuit.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, following reports that armed men had invaded the community and were firing shots into the air.

Three residents — 20-year-old Yusif Nasiru, Salisu Garba and Ibrahim Hassan — were reportedly shot and injured during the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

He said tactical and patrol teams were immediately deployed to the area after receiving the distress call, with personnel from neighbouring divisions joining the operation.

The security teams, working alongside members of the community, pursued the fleeing attackers, forcing them to abandon the traditional ruler and escape.

“Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt,” the statement said.

Nadabo and the three injured victims were subsequently taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Following the operation, the police deployed additional patrols around Garun Mallam Town and adjoining areas to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.

The command also launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Bakori commended the police personnel and residents who participated in the rescue operation, particularly members of the Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Corps.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.

The commissioner assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen security measures across the state to protect lives and property.
