Poor Widow Gives Chickens To Neighbors In FCT

A widow, Mrs Mary Unogwu, has demonstrated the spirit of Christmas when she gave out some of the chickens in her small poultry to her neighbours in Saburi, Deidei area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Mrs Unogwu, whose husband died three months ago, has struggled to cope with life after her husband’s sudden demise.

She had lived on the proceed of her small poultry, but that has not stopped her from giving to others.

On Thursday, she distributed Christmas chicken to neighbors and friends in Saburi community of FCT.

Speaking to THE WHISTLER on Thursday, Mrs Unogwu said when her husband was alive, it was a norm in the house that bags of rice and other things must be given to people who can not afford Christmas food.

“The only thing that can give me that Xmas satisfaction is to put a smile in some people’s face and keep my husband’s dream alive”

According to her, she kept the poultry principally for this purpose and that is why she derives “joy and fulfilment to touch people’s live.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mr John Oche, said culturally, “it should be my responsibilities to give to her and not the other way round.

“Our late brother Terry will forever be remembered in our heart, and this gesture from his wife showed he had lived a legacy for his unborn generations”

He added that she had shown that it is not the wealthy that give but men and women who have the heart to give.
