PROFILE: Company Behind Lagos Helicopter Crash Obtained License 2Yrs Ago

Quorom Aviation, the owner of the privately operated helicopter that crashed into a residential area of Lagos State on Friday, had obtained its operating license from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) barely two years ago.

The aviation-cum-logistics company commenced charter services in late 2018 after obtaining its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from the NCAA.

The company which was incorporated in 2011 was founded by Mr. Abiola Lukman Lawal.

Quorom Aviation had announced Captain James Daniel as its Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Daniel, according to the company, is an experienced pilot, aviation executive and six-sigma expert with expertise in both fixed wing and rotary operations and over two decades of experience with Bristow Helicopters.

In a statement announcing its entrance into the Nigerian aviation and logistics sectors, Quorom Aviation said its management comprised of experienced persons with combined experience of over 100 years.

The company commenced business by offering aviation, logistics, maritime and costal surveillance services to oil and gas companies and VIPs.

Its founder and Managing Director, Lawal, had said the company’s target was “to be able to support off-shore exploration, the oil and gas business,” adding that, “securing the AOC is a major milestone; the AOC is a rigorous, exhaustive and very expensive one too but we are grateful that the Authority puts us through the process. There are five phases of multi-layer aspects including manpower, facility, demonstration, manuals and others.”

Barely a year after commencing operations, Quorom Aviation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kaduna State Government to establish BOKU AIR to commence Kaduna-Abuja-Lagos air shuttle services to complement the Kaduna-Abuja rail service.
