Reactions As ASUU Gives Reasons Varsities Can’t Reopen

Reactions are trailing the recent position of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on school resumption.

ASUU has maintained that even if the federal government directs schools to resume, universities would not be part of it because of unsettled issues with Government.

ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, stressed that aside the covid-19 health crisis, federal government was yet to commit to upgrading the education system.

Recall that ASUU had embarked on an industrial strike action(prior to the covid-19 lockdown) due to, among others, it inclusion in the payment platform (IPPIS).

Ogunyemi reiterated that schools were not(considering the number of students) well equipped to operate within social distancing guidelines.

“You cannot talk about social distancing in universities without talking about additional lecture rooms.

“So, we have two crisis delaying resumption; the health crisis and the refusal of government to make our universities standard,” ASUU tweeted on Sunday.

However, twitter users, on Monday, expressed disappointment at ASUU’s position.
