Reps Summon Buhari Over Herdsmen Killings

President Muhammadu Buhari has been summoned by the House of Representatives to answer questions regarding the bloodshed by suspected Fulani herdsmen across Nigeria.

The House, during a plenary session on Wednesday, asked Buhari to appear before the floor of the low legislative chamber to throw light on the security situation in the country.

The lawmakers, however, did not state when the president is expected to appear as they resolved to suspend the plenary session for three days to protest the killings.

The resolution was welcomed by a majority of the members after a Kano lawmaker, Baballe Bashir, moved for the amendment of a motion moved by Mark Gbilah from Benue state on the recent attack on a community in the state.

Edward Pwajok, a Plateau state lawmaker, said Nigeria is gradually becoming a “failed state.”

“We seem to be laying the foundation for Nigeria to be declared a failed state. If we are not able to act to nip this matter in the bud, international agencies have to come in.

“Almost every day, we move motions relating to killings in this house. Is it that we are just coming to lament for the sake of it or what? The time has come for leaders of the national assembly to sit down with Buhari and summon the security chiefs and interrogate them on these issues.”

The lawmaker said it was time for Buhari to leave power as he is allegedly no longer the Buhari of the old days they used to know.

“The Buhari we have today is not Buhari of 1984. It is time for the president to go. He promised change when he was elected but nothing has happened.”
