Rivers CP To Protesters: SARS Is ‘Gone And Gone For Good’

The Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Joseph Mukan has assured #EndSARS that the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad would not be replicated again by the Nigerian Police Force.

He stated this when he received protesters at the Headquarters of the Police Command along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

One of the organizers of the protest, Comrade Solomon Lenu, said they demanded reasons for the delay in prosecution of the cops indicted in the recent murder of Daniel Ikeaguchi, also known as Sleek.

The protesters also asked the CP why he failed to visit the family of Sleek but visited the family of the police woman killed in Eneka, Port Harcourt, a day after the incident.

Meanwhile, in his address, CP, Mukan saluted the peaceful manner the protesters handled the march.

He said: “A Committee of Enquiry has been set up and I enjoin members of the public with knowledge of anyone who was killed by SARS operatives to come forward and testify.

“SARS is gone and gone for good. When the IG comes up with another outfit they can’t be like SARS. SWAT will be very professional. We know how you feel. A committee of enquiry has already been set up, if you know anyone who was killed by the SARS, you are free to testify to that in Court.

“The youths are not criminals as you all have things to do to move this country”.

THE WHISTLER observed that turnout for Tuesday’s protest was much more than previous days and there was no incidence of violence.

The state government had earlier raised the alarm that some persons were planning violence in the state.
