$46bn External Reserves: PDP Plans To Return To Power To Loot Again – Keyamo

Nigerian lawyer, Festus Keyamo SAN, has accused the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of plotting to return to power in 2019 to loot Nigeria’s new foreign reserves of $46 billion.

Keyamo said this after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) declared in a statement on Sunday that the country’s external reserves had climbed to 46 billion dollars.

The SAN claimed in a series of tweets on Monday that the PDP hopes to return power to “deplete” the new figures after allegedly drawing the reserves down to “$29 million” before President Muhammadu Buhari’s ascension to power in 2015.

Keyamo said, “They desperately want to return to power again to deplete this ($46 billion). They drew it down to $29million in a mindless looting spree. But they want to draw a blindfold over our eyes, so we can blindly vote for them. Patriots must work tirelessly to prevent d blindfold so our people can see.

“The strategy of those Nigerians rejected in 2015 is to spread false narratives to d extent that Nigerians would be so angry as to forget all their deeds & just blindly vote them back to power in 2019. Patriots must continually remind our people that we cannot take that route again,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CBN has attributed the reserves continued increase to the Bank’s effort at vigorously discouraging unnecessary importation and reducing the nation’s import bill, inflow from oil and non-oil exports.
