AEDC Commences Installation of 65, 000 Meters In Kogi, Niger

In line with its commitment to meter its customers across its franchise area, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced plans to commence installation of 65, 000 meters in Niger and Kogi States.

The management of the company, in a statement on Wednesday, said that the shutdown of electric power in some parts of its franchise area was due to lack of proper metering of its customers.

It added that providing the said meters will ensure that customers are properly metered, thereby addressing billing related issues between the AEDC and its customers.

The distribution company said that it had allocated “5,000 meters for its customers in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital”, and is expected to commence the installations before the end of December this year.

The company noted that customers in various parts of Niger State will be getting 60,000 meters by the end of January, 2017

While denying that it was deliberately starving its customers in Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states of power supply, The AEDC noted that the company was only distributing the load allocated to it by the System Operator since November 2013.

It attributed the poor power supply in its franchise area to the drop in load allocated to it by the System Operator, resulting from the general drop in electricity generation.

The company further explained that it had over time taken load in excess of its allocation in order to meet customers’ demand.

“When there is extra load in the system, we have always taken it in order to ensure that we meet the demands of our customers,” it said.
