Gunmen Assassinate Gov Ortom’s Aide, Igbana Denen (Updated)

Unknown gunmen, in the early hours of Friday, assassinated Hon Igbana Denen, the Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters to Benue state Governor Samuel Ortom, in his home.

It was learnt that Denen was killed at his residence in Benue at about 2:30am on Friday, May 20, 2016.

Speaking during a sympathy visit to the family of the deceased, Gov Ortom promised to bring the perpetrators of the act to book.

He described the deceased as one of his most trusted and dependable appointees.

According to him, the deceased had before his demise, informed him that that some people were threatening to kidnap him, adding that he requested for funds to carry out perimeter fencing of his house.

He however, assured that his administration would carry out discrete investigation on the killing to unravel the motive and people behind the act.

A leader in Tionsha community, Thomas Ayakpam, who was an eyewitness said the gunmen struck around 2:30am.

He revealed that after the gunshots died down, he heard the deceased pleading with the assassins to spare his life. “So, Ghana, after all that that we have done together, you can look me in the face and kill me in this manner,” Ayakpam quoted Igbana as saying before he passed out.
