American singer, songwriter and dancer Christopher Maurice popularly known as “Chris” Brown, said he considered committing suicide after he assaulted ex-girlfriend, Rihanna.
Chris beat up then girlfriend Rihanna prior to a Grammy show in 2009, and the abuse became one of the most notorious incidents of the 21st century after photos of her battered face were leaked to the press.
In a trailer for his new documentary Welcome To My Life, the R&B singer says their relationship was “like a fantasy” but he felt like a monster afterwards, adding that his actions still hunt him till today.
“I went from being on top of the world, number one songs, being kind of like America’s sweetheart, to being public enemy number one,” Chris said.
“I felt like a f***ing monster. I was thinking about suicide and everything else. I wasn’t sleeping, I barely ate.
Chris Brown’s mother, Joyce Hawkins, who made an appearance, also talked about her experience after the assault charge at the time.
“That was the worst day of my life and probably of his life,” she said. “I felt like I was going to lose my child.
“He grew up so fast, he didn’t really get to have a childhood or the teenage life of a normal person.”
Brown ended the trailer by saying: “If there was ever a doubt in your mind Chris Brown was done, he was finished: I wouldn’t bet on it.”
