The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Emeka Mba, got a rousing welcome from staffers of the commission as he returned to work on Thursday.

Staffers, who got hint that their DG would be resuming work on Thursday, waited outside for his arrival and burst in songs and dancing when they sighted his car.

The pleasantly surprised Mba, an eyewitness said, fought back tears and thanked the staff for their rare support and confidence in him.

Mba was picked by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on January 11 over allegations that he failed to remit N15billion of NBC’s fund into the Treasury Single Account, TSA, with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The arrest followed a petition against Mba and his management team, alleging that they concealed the sum from the federal government despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that all government funds must be transferred to the account with the CBN.

Investigations revealed that the N15 billion was part of the N34 billion realised from the sale of the 700MHz spectrum band to MTN Nigeria Limited.

The money, it was learnt, was used by the NBC to secure bank guarantees for contracts related to the manufacture of set-up boxes for the digital switchover.
