NHIS Boss Tells Health Minister: You Cannot Suspend Me
The crisis in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), deepened on Friday as the Executive Secretary of the agency, Usman Yusuf, has bluntly told the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, that he cannot suspend him.
Yusuf in a letter dated July 12 replied Adewole that he would not comply with the July 6 suspension order.

In the reply first reported by Premium Times, the embattled NHIS boss said while he received the letter directing he proceeds on a three months suspension, he was constrained from honouring the suspension order.
Trouble started for Yusuf when the Senate launched investigations into his activities as the NHIS chief and accused him of “corrupt expenditure of N292 million” which he allegedly spent on health care training “without recourse to any appropriate approving authority.”
A twist into the suspension saga emerged on Wednesday when the House of Representatives asked the health minister to recall the NHIS boss.
