Nigeria Drops 9 Places In Latest FIFA Ranking

Nigeria has been ranked in 70th place in the new FIFA ranking for July released by the world football governing body on Thursday.

The Super Eagles dropped nine places from 61st in last month’s edition, falling from 559 points to 514 to tie with Congo in 70th.

The fall according to the football body is majorly due to inactivity in the last month.

Nigeria’s Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying opponent, Algeria, remain first in Africa and 32nd in the world, with Cote d’ivoire (35th in the world) Ghana (36th in the world) and Senegal (41st in the world), ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. The Super Eagles are 16th in Africa.

Meanwhile, on the global scene, Argentina are ranked first ahead of Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.

Euro 2016 winners Portugal and defeated finalists France moved up two and 10 places respectively to sit sixth and seventh, with Spain, Brazil and Italy rounding off the top 10.

Wales emerged as one of the month’s biggest climbers, moving up 15 places to 11th, after their run to the semi-finals of the just concluded Euro 2016, their best ever performance at a major tournament.
