Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the world’s most charitable sports star after donating fortunes to charitable causes across the globe.

The Real Madrid striker beat the likes of John Cena, Serena Williams and Barcelona star Neymar in the DoSomething.org’s Athletes Gone Good 2015 list, where he was recognized for his generousity, as he has raised money for various causes and used his global status as a spokesperson for charity.

A few of his numerous charity aids include, donating more than $83,000 to a 10 year-old fan in need of brain surgery and giving more than $165,000 to fund a cancer center in his home country Portugal, where his mother was treated.

In a statement by Dosomething.org, indicated that the Real Madrid star topped the list for going above and beyond both on the field of play and in his charity work.

“Ronaldo has also used his fame as a global spokesperson for a variety of causes including childhood hunger, obesity and biodiversity.”

Also listed alongside Ronaldo in the top 20 list is Tom Daley whose father lost his life to a brain tumor aged just 40, is now a patron of The Brain Tumor Charity.

DoSomething.org is one of the largest global organisations in the world, with about 4 million members intended to tackle campaigns that impact every cause, from poverty to violence to the environment.
