Saraki Vs IGP: Return ‘Assassin Gang’ To Ilorin, Kwara Judiciary Orders Police

The Kwara State Judiciary has ordered the immediate return of the ‘assassin gang’ that was recently transferred to Abuja allegedly on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, back to the state.

This comes after Senate President, Bukola Saraki, raised the alarm of an alleged plot by IGP Idris to use the suspects to frame him for a murder case.

According to Saraki, the IGP and his cronies in Force planned on finding ‘‘how to alter their statement already made in Ilorin and try and implicate the state government and particularly myself. I felt that as we speak now, these suspects are already here in Abuja.’’

But warning the Senate President in a reaction to his claim against the police chief, the Force PRO, Jimoh Moshood, said his allegations were capable of obstructing their investigation, adding that ‘‘Nobody no matter how highly placed would be allowed to interfere or obstruct Police investigation to pervert the course of justice.’’

Reacting, however, to the developments, the Chief Registrar of the Kwara State Judiciary, N.A. Adeyanju, has ordered the police to return the suspects – Abolaji Ojulari, Lanre Solihu, Aziz Mayaki and Suleiman Babatunde – back to Ilorin where they were transferred from.

Adeyanju’s letter to the Kwara State Police Command reads in part: “You would recall that on the 15th day of May 2018, your officers brought a First Information Report (F.I.R) containing the following names for the offences of criminal conspiracy, cultism and culpable homicide.

“However, due to the fact that the police prosecutors were withdrawn, we asked your officers to return them and bring them back on 16th day of May 2018. Now that the police prosecutors are available, please make necessary arrangement to bring them back to court for arraignment,” the registrar said.
