WhatsApp will roll out GIF support to its iOS app in its latest version in the coming weeks.

The Facebook-owned messaging app has staunchly resisted the gif invasion till date, and support for sharing animated images will certainly be a welcome feature addition for users.

The new feature which was spotted in iOS beta build (version 2.16.7.1), was first reported by WABetaInfo – a Twitter account dedicated to WhatsApp’s upcoming features.

The report also indicated that WhatsApp will end support for iPhones running iOS 6 and older versions of the OS from December 31, 2016.

WhatsApp has already ended support for Nokia and BlackBerry devices.

It is still unclear when gif image support will roll out to users of the general release, or when it will release on Android.

WhatsApp has been steadily adding a host of new features to its app. Recently the company added support to share documents, like PDFs, Doc files, etc even from third-party apps like Google Drive, OneDrive. The feature is available on both Android and iOS.
