Super Eagles Defender, Sanusi Suffers Knee Injury, Ruled Out For Six Months

Super Eagles left-back, Zaidu Sanusi has suffered a knee ligament injury and he is expected to be out of action for six months.

Sanusi sustained the injury in Porto’s 2-0 win over Estrella da Amadora on Saturday night and he was replaced by Jorge Sanchez in the 37th minute of the encounter.

FC Porto confirmed his injury with a statement on their website, wishing him a quick recovery.

The Club said, “Stay strong, Zaidu, The Nigerian international has a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament of his left knee,”

Sanusi is expected to undergo surgery in the next few days.

The Super Eagles defender missed the first three months of the season due to injury. He is now set to miss the rest of the season in what is a big blow to Porto.

He will also be out of the Super Eagles World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic in June.

Sanusi was part of the Super Eagles team that won the silver medal at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

He featured in six out of the seven matches for the Super Eagles in the competition.
