Supreme Court Sacks Traditional Ruler After 21 Years On Throne

A popular traditional ruler in Oyo State, the Eleruwa Of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola, was on Friday sacked by the Supreme Court after spending 21 years on the throne.

Adegbola was ordered by the court to vacate the throne he had occupied since 1998, reports Tribune.

The monarch was said to have appealed an earlier judgement of the Oyo State High Court which dethroned him on 26 January, 2011, for wrongly occupying the throne.

The appeal court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Ladipo Abimbola, had affirmed Adegbola’s dethronement by the state high court on the grounds that due process was not followed in crowing him.

The monarch hence proceeded to the apex court to seek redress.

The Supreme Court, on Friday, however threw out Oba Adegbola’s appeal and ordered him to vacate the throne as earlier directed by the lower courts.
